{"id":1446,"date":"2020-02-22T17:35:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-22T22:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/comicsforum.msu.edu\/?p=1446"},"modified":"2020-02-22T17:35:00","modified_gmt":"2020-02-22T22:35:00","slug":"2021-event-announcements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/comicsforum.msu.edu\/?p=1446","title":{"rendered":"2021 Event Announcements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re proud to announce our 2021 MSU Comics Forum event dates,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/comicsforum.msu.edu\/location\/\">location<\/a>, keynote speakers,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/comicsforum.msu.edu\/forms\/\">availability of our artist and scholar submission forms<\/a>, and our event artwork:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"899\" src=\"http:\/\/comicsforum.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/2021MSUCF.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/comicsforum.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/2021MSUCF.jpg 600w, https:\/\/comicsforum.msu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/2021MSUCF-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kevinhuizenga.com\/\"><strong>Kevin Huizenga<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s graphic novels include\u00a0<em>Curses<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Wild Kingdom<\/em>, <em>Gloriana<\/em>, and the recently released <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawnandquarterly.com\/river-night\">The River at Night<\/a><\/em>. \u00a0His work has been translated into six languages, garnered five Ignatz awards, as well as nominations for Harvey and Eisner awards. \u00a0In 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2019\/dec\/31\/best-comics-of-the-decade-2010s-sandman-hark-a-vagrant?fbclid=IwAR13A-STwSSbdGHy4rMbkL5wF0ig6hz7wrMEgSpKbgsu1TWjxG9XL9zrt1E\"><em>The Guardian<\/em> named <em>The River at Night<\/em> one of the best comics of the past decade<\/a>.\u00a0 Huizenga\u00a0lives in Minneapolis where he taught in the Comic Art program at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design from 2015-2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deborahelizabethwhaley.com\/\">Deborah Elizabeth Whaley<\/a><\/strong> is an artist, curator, writer, Senior Scholar for Digital Arts and Humanities for DSPS, director of the Digital Humanities graduate certificate, and Professor of American Studies and African American Studies at the University of Iowa.  In her recent book, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deborahelizabethwhaley.com\/black-women-in-sequence\">Black Women in Sequence: Re-inking Comics, Graphic Novels, and Anime<\/a><\/em>, Whaley explores graphic novel production and comic book fandom, looking in particular at African, African American, and multiethnic women as deployed in television, film, animation, gaming, and print representations of comic book and graphic novel characters.
